Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG2) explained

Posted on by Clive Walker in Web Design

I wrote this post a while back. The content can still be relevant but the information I've linked to may not be available.

WCAG2 are an update for the original WCAG1 accessibility guidelines. In fact, the original initiative was published in 1999 and the finalization of WCAG2 at the end of 2008 was well overdue. However, although this is a worthy initiative, I have found it hard to digest and understand the new version because it is a very long document [even though the authors have tried to help with an Understanding WCAG2 document].

Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 covers a wide range of recommendations for making Web content more accessible.

There is an unofficial check box reference list for WCAG2 but alternative and clearer explanations are very useful for a dumbo like me. That’s where this presentation about WCAG2 by Paul Boag comes in. The presentation gave me a much better understanding of the WCAG2 Guidelines. Check it out if you want to learn more.

Note: Audio quality is a bit variable with the presentation but it’s worth persevering with.
