This book was one of the books that inspired me to learn PHP and MySQL and it’s a great resource. The book by Kevin Yank is a practical hands-on guide to learning how to build a fully functional database driven website using PHP & MySQL.
It’s written in an easy-to-read style with screenshots and diagrams to help understanding. You will need to set aside some time to go through it in depth if you want to get the most out of it. If you do this, then it should be possible for you to build a website content management system – and learn a lot about PHP and MySQL in the process.

It’s a beginners book but it also covers more advanced topics such as the storage of binary data in MySQL, and cookies and sessions in PHP. It also has a convenient reference guide for PHP and MySQL.

When I read this book for the first time, I had a good understanding of HTML and building static websites but only a small knowledge of PHP. If you are a web designer who is looking to get started with web development with PHP and MySQL then this book will be worth it IMO.
