Post to ma.gnolia or del.icio.us from FeedDemon

Posted in on 15 March 2006

If you are using the RSS reader FeedDemon, you may want to quickly add a post you have just read to your favourite bookmark website like Del.icio.us or its new rival Ma.gnolia. Well, here’s how to do this.

In FeedDemon, click Tools – Blog this News Item, then Confgure Blog Publishing Tools. In the dialogue box that opens, click Add, choose a Blog Tool name (eg ‘Delicious’ or ‘Magnolia’) and enter the following into the Command Line box.

  • For Del.icio.us – http://del.icio.us/yourusername?url=$ITEM_LINK$&title=$ITEM_TITLE$
  • For Ma.gnolia – http://ma.gnolia.com/bookmarklet/add?url=$ITEM_LINK$&title=$ITEM_TITLE$

Make sure that you use the underscores. Use your own username in the URL for Del.icio.us. Click OK.

Try it!

Now, right click on a News Item in the News Item List pane. Choose Blog this News Item. Select the Blog Tool name you chose and off you go. A browser window (Del.icio.us or Ma.gnolia) will open. You may need to login at this point. The News Item URL and Item Title will be pre-populated in the Del.icio.us or Ma.gnolia Bookmark form. Add your Tags and/or Description. That’s it!

Thanks to the Ma.gnolia team and the FeedDemon Support Forum for help with this.
