David Rosam from Web Positioning Centre gave an interesting presentation about SEO copywriting at last night's Skillswap in Brighton. Key points from the presentation included:
There was quite a bit of discussion during and after the presentation about valid search engine techniques, whether image replacement methods might cause search engine problems [see also this article], and understanding how Google works. My own view about image replacement techniques is that you should do it sensibly and this will probably not cause problems but there are different opinions on this.
My experience with website clients over the last few years is that most people are mainly concerned with how the website design will look when, in fact, the website copy is no less important. Many people do put a lot of effort into their website copy but an equally large number do not even think about this aspect.
Additionally, a surprising number of websites do not rank very highly for their target keywords - simply because those keywords are not present or used in the website copy.
Perhaps I am oversimplfying but SEO optimisation is sometimes just a matter of doing the basics correctly.
