Google has published an article called Blogtimize which provides information about the best AdSense placements for blogs.
The mighty G has published its optimisation tips for non-blog websites previously but this is the first time it has given some guidance on blog layouts. The article provides some guidelines about the best AdSense format where the medium rectangle and the banner seem to win out. Google also suggest that link units are better than skyscraper units for the sidebar of your blog. Additionally, Google suggests that AdSense placed after each article post may be one of the best placements.
Some of the other advice has been given before, eg blending AdSense colours into the colours of your blog, and many websites follow this guideline. Whilst it is probably a good idea to follow Google’s tips in the main, we still reckon it is worthwhile experimenting to some degree in order to find the best placement, colour scheme, and AdSense unit to use.
Don’t forget, it may be a better idea to spend some time attracting more blog visitors before worrying too much about AdSense ;-)
